CODER AND METHOD FOR IMAGE DATA, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coder and a method that can select optimum filter in the case of coding through wavelet transform which includes plural kinds of filters. SOLUTION: The coder is provided with coding means (105, 107, 108) that code image data and with an output means 110, that outputs coded data of the image data. The means 105 performs discrete wavelet transform by using plural kinds of filters for the image data to generate coded data per filter, and the output means 110 outputs only the coded data of the shortest code length.
