MAT TO BE PLACED IN A FARROW COTTAGE

The invention regards a mat for placement in a farrow hut of the type which in particular is used for outdoor, untethered pig sows. The farrow hut is normally constructed as an arched, spacious shell construction (roofed) which is without a ground level, and which is supplied with a suitable entrance for the pig sow. In the interior of the hut a straw bed is made by means of frequent sprinkling of straw. The invention is special in the way that the mat is produced in a suitable stiff but still flexible, watertight synthetic material (foil laminate or a similar for the purpose suitable plastic laminate or rubber laminate) which is shaped with upwards bend side edges under the production of a flat, watertight tray. The exterior dimensions of the tray are fitted to the interior dimensions of the hut so that the upwards bend side edges are closely connected to the interior part of the walls of the hut when the mat is placed correctly in the hut. The mat prevents moist from penetrating into the straw from underneath, just as rain water from outside is prevented from reaching the sprinkled straw. In this manner the straw can be kept dry, which is vital for the well being of the young pigs.
