Location-selective, simultaneous NMR or ESR examination of library substances, takes place in the presence of a further substance or mixture. Preferred features: NMR is employed as a spectroscopic measurement method. The field from the magnet has vertical or horizontal orientation. Dipole resonance phenomena are detected with selectivity of location. They are measured in a one- or two-dimensional NMR experiment. Dipolar resonance phenomena are measured as components of a multidimensional homo- or hetero-nuclear NMR experiment. Position-selective detection is enabled by an accelerated-gradient magnetic field. Location-selective detection of the signals is restricted to at least two spatial dimensions, i.e. to at least one layer. The substances or mixtures are contained in micro-reaction vessels. 6, 20, 50 or 96 microreaction vessels are present in a single test- or titration plate. The vessels are cylindrical, congruent. They are in an orthogonal matrix, uniformly-spaced. All vessels are introduced into the magnetic field or removed from it, simultaneously. The substance library contains synthetic compounds. As a spectroscopic measurement method, ESR, i.e. electron spin resonance spectroscopy, is employed.
