PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder provided with a mechanism for washing out matters adhering to a wiper for cleaning the nozzles of a print head carried on a carriage or supplying moisture retaining liquid into a cap for retaining moisture of the nozzles in the print head. SOLUTION: A cleaning head 100 is provided at the part of carriage 30 located closer to the service region side than a print head 30. The cleaning head 100 is connected with means 110 for ejecting cleaning liquid from the nozzle of the cleaning head at a specified timing. The ejecting means 110 ejects cleaning liquid from the nozzle of the cleaning head 100 to the wiper 50 when the nozzle of the cleaning head 100 reaches a position above the wiper 50, or ejects cleaning liquid from the nozzle of the cleaning head 100 into the cap 60 of a capping means when the cleaning head 100 reaches a position above the cap 60.
