Compounds of the formulae (see formula I, II, III) wherein R1 is a fluorinated methoxy group, R3a is a hydrogen atom, a nitro group or an amino group, R10a is a lower alkyl group, and X is a halogen atom are intermediates for preparing compounds of the formula (I) (see formula IV) (in which: R1 represents fluorinated methoxy; R2 represents a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group and R3 represents hydrogen or amino) and pharmaceutically- acceptable salts, esters and amides thereof, which are valuable antibacterial agents.
