PURPOSE: An apparatus for processing character data of a mobile communication terminal and a method thereof are provided to promptly transmit and receive character data by adding a scanner function to the mobile communication terminal, thereby enabling epochal information transmission. CONSTITUTION: A scanning part(10) reads a document. A character recognition part(20) recognizes character after compensating distortion of characters included in the input document. A data converter(30) converts character data recognized at the character recognition part into voice data, character data, and fax data. A memory part(40) stores the converted data. A key input part(50) inputs a dial signal deciding an external control signal and a receiver. A micro computer(60) controls operation of each part of a system according to a signal input through the key input part and recognizes the state of the receiver. A transmitting and receiving part(70) transmits and receives data according to the control signal of the micro computer.
