PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method (first invention) by which, without depending on plating conditions in the conventional hot dip galvanizing method, namely, with plating conditions fixed, the coating weight of plating is correctly estimated by the conditions other than the plating conditions and moreover to provide a hot dip galvanizing method (second invention) by which this estimating method is utilized to the conventional hot dip galvanizing method, and the coating weight of plating is controlled to the desired one to improve the corrosion resistance of the material to be plated. SOLUTION: In the first invention, from the content of silicon and surface roughness in the steel to be plated, the coating weight of hot dip galvanizing in the steel to be plated is estimated. Moreover, in the second invention, the surface roughness of the steel to be plated required for obtaining the desired coating weight of hot dip galvanizing is estimated from the silicon content and hot dip galvanizing conditions in the steel to be plated, the surface roughness of the steel to be plated is controlled to the estimated surface roughness, and, after that, hot dip galvanizing is performed under the same hot dip galvanizing conditions.
