The lavatory seat (2), hinged to a fixed base (5), has a series of holes (6) in its under-surface (3) linked via a suction channel (7) inside the seat and a distribution chamber (13) in the base to an extractor duct which carries any unwanted odours from the lavatory bowl into the outside atmosphere. Between the seat and base the air passes through channels (9, 12) which align when the seat is down.
