PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage heater performing heating in daytime utilizing midnight electric power in which a sufficient heating effect can be attained while preventing cold draft in the perimeter zone. SOLUTION: The storage heater comprises a counter member 1 provided on the window side in a building and having an air inlet 10 made at a lower part of the side wall 3 and an air outlet 11 made in the upper wall 5, and a heat storage unit 2 disposed in the counter member 1 and having a vertical ventilation passage 13 for heating air from the air inlet 10 and supplying hot air H to the air outlet 11 through natural convection. The storage heater further comprises means 26 for opening/closing a hot air outlet 19 above the ventilation passage 13 to control discharge of the hot air H and interruption thereof, and means 27 for detecting the upper wall temperature of the counter member 1 and delivering a detection signal to the means 26 for opening/closing the opening.
