PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium reproducing device having a predrying process. SOLUTION: The reproducing device 1 which supplies the aqueous solution 16 to a paper sheet 4 at least of which the surface layer has the water swelling characteristic, and removes a toner from the paper sheet 4 has (a) a predrying part 10 which applies heat treatment to the paper sheet 4 so that the moisture content included in the paper sheet 4 may become less than the paper sheet 4 before the heat treatment, (b) a feeding part 14 which supplies aqueous solution 16 to the surface layer of the paper sheet 4 heated by the predrying part 10 and (c) a toner removal part 28 which removes the toner from the surface layer of the paper sheet 4 swelled by the supplied aqueous solution 16. The heating temperature in the predrying part 10 is set so that the temperature affecting the toner may be below the glass transition point of the toner.
