PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a decoding error rate is increased in a conventional information reproducing device due to distortion and offset in reproduction signals or because no information is available to compensate for asymmetry. SOLUTION: The maximum and minimum values of the amplitudes of shortest recording information obtained by a shortest recording information amplitude detecting means 12 are added with a slice level corrected by an automatic slicer 6 on the basis of the output binary signals of a binary circuit 5 as asymmetry information by an asymmetry adding member 13. Maximum and minimum values of an envelope detected by a signal envelope detecting means 10 and a central value (the slice level) obtained in the reproduced signal binary operation are give to a viterbi decoder 9 as identification points. Thus, the identification points of viterbi decoding are made suitable for actual reproduced waveforms and the decoding operation is made surer.
