Concrete testing method and apparatus suitable for use with both low and high water content concrete for determining density, air content and, after hardening in the mold, tensile strength

Method for determining density of fresh or unset concrete as well as subsequent determination of its tensile strength after hardening. Testing method uses an entrained air container and cover. A mold for producing test bodies is provided that seals with the cover of the container. Total weight of mold and cover is determined, mold is then filled with water, re-weighed and the containment volume of the mold determined, concrete is poured into the mold and compressed, total weight of mold, cover and concrete is determined, the remaining containment volume is filled with water, total weight is again measured, the air void component is determined using a calibration curve for the cover and from values for weight and the air void component, the density of the compressed fresh concrete is determined. After hardening the tensile strength of the molded concrete is determined. An Independent claim is made for a device for determining the density of unset concrete and the volume of entrapped air voids.
