Reactor for reacting low- and high-molecular components, especially for coupled in vitro transcription-translation protein preparation reactions, including reactor chamber containing swellable matrix

A novel reactor for carrying out reactions between low-molecular components (LMC) and high-molecular components (HMC) has at least 20% of the reactor chamber filled with a matrix swellable in aqueous solution, formed from a porous material which can take up LMC but excludes HMC. Independent claims are included for: (i) a method for preparing products from HMC and LMC in the reactor, involving homogeneously distributing LMC (specifically the substrate consumed in the reaction) homogeneously over the whole reactor chamber, distributing HMC (specifically a catalyst) solely in the exclusion volume of the matrix and carrying out conversion of LMC solely in the exclusion volume of the matrix; and (ii) formulations for carrying out coupled in vitro transcription/translation reactions for the preparation of proteins by the process, specifically comprising a supply solution and a reaction solution.
