CATHODOLUMINESCENT FLAT PANEL DISPLAYS WITH CHARGE REMOVAL ELECTRODES

Conducting charge removal electrodes (CREs) (50) are incorporated in the anode structure of cathodoluminescent flat panel displays to act as electron "sinks" for capturing surface electrons that would otherwise remain on the surface of anode phosphors (54). These CREs (50) are electrically conductive electrodes maintained at a positive voltage relative to the selected anode pixels (52) and are interposed between the anode pixels (52). In addition to capturing surface electrons, excess electrons are also captured by the CREs (50).
