CUSTOMIZED LASER ABLATION OF CORNEAS WITH SOLID STATE LASERS

A surgical laser system (100) is described for customized ablation with a power stabilized, near diffraction-limited laser beam. This surgical laser beam (31) has a pulse repetition rate of from near 500 Hz to about 1 kHz and has a relatively small spot size at both positions of the cornea (61) and the scanner (41). Such a surgical laser beam (31) enables the use of fast scanner (41) and the implement of fast eye tracker (50). One embodiment of such a surgical laser source (30) is a CW pumped solid state laser (32) employing non-linear wavelength conversion.
