PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an advantageous method of producing a fungicide described in International Patent Publication WO 99/21851 and to obtain an intermediate thereof. SOLUTION: The method of producing a compound (3) (R1 and R2 denote each a 1-4C alkyl or the like, independently; R3 denotes a 1-4C alkyl or the like; R4 denotes H or a halogen; Z denotes H, an alkali metal or the like; R5, R6, R7 and R8 denote each H or the like, independently; and Y denotes H or the like) by reacting a compound (1) with a compound (2), the method for producing the compound (1) (R4 is H) by reacting a compound (4) (R4 is H) with a compound (5), the method for producing a compound (1) (Z is H; and R4 is a halogen) or a compound (3) (R4 is a halogen) by halogenating the compound (1) (Z and R4 are H) or the compound (3) (R4 is H) and the compound (1) are disclosed.
