the stiffening fabric, designed to give long-term stability to a shirt collar, is made from a knitted material with its stitches (2) reinforced with weft threads (3) of thermally-stabilised synthetic fibres. The synthetic threads can be located between rows of stitches and are left straight, with no corrugations. The stiffening fabric can be used in conjunction with an interlining, e.g. of cotton and can have a coating of adhesive for joining it to the interlining. It is cut so that the reinforcing threads run lengthwise along the collar. |
