PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording method and its device by which a picture file after recording is arranged easily and retrieved by effectively using the media size of a plurality of recording media, having different recording capacities. SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 is provided with two media slots 36 and 38 as a recording means for preserving image data. A smart medium 52 with 16 MB recording capacity is mounted on the first media slot 36, e.g. and a compact flash 54 with 64 MB recording capacity is mounted on the second media slot 38. Then the preserving destination medium of the data is selected automatically, according to the size of the data of the image to be photographed. Various methods for setting a threshold exist, by which the size of the data is judged. The data size of the image to be recorded is estimated by the existence of data compression or by animation/still image, for example, and then the recording medium of the preserving destination is selected.
