PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal projection in which a shutter mechanism for protecting a projection lens can be simplified, and improvement in operability can be realized in a liquid crystal projector having a retractive projection lens. SOLUTION: The projection lens of the liquid crystal projector us equipped with a shutter for protecting the front surface. The shutter uses the motor of the projection lens for zooming as a driving source, and the shutter opening and closing operation is interlocked with the retractive operation of the projection lens. The motor is driving after the OFF signal of an operating switch is detected to perform the retractive operation of the projection lens. After detecting the completion of the retractive operation, the cooling fan of a liquid crystal display device is stopped, and then the main power supply is turned OFF.
