A locking device of chair allowing a chair to be varied in posture from an upright posture to a reclined one with less space and without allowing a body to be separated from a desk, wherein a seat (3) and a backrest (2) are installed on a seat receiving member (10) through a mechanism rotatably supporting the backrest (2) and the seat (3) and a reaction imparting device (4) imparting a reaction to return the back rest (2) and the seat (3) to the initial positions, and the backrest (2) and the seat (3) are interlocked with each other so that the posture of the chair can be varied, the centers (CS, CB) of the rotating motion of the backrest (2) and the seat (3) tilting from the upright posture to the reclined posture being set above the seat (3) and forwardly of the backrest (2) so that the backrest (2) and the seat (3) are moved forward while sinking simultaneously, whereby the backrest (2) moves forward together with the seat (3) without protruding to vary to the reclined posture while preventing a distance between the body and the desk from being increased.
