PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device and a color conversion method by which a color video image of a desirably emphasized color component in an object can be converted into a video image having an accurate ratio of red, green and blue colors. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with an image pickup means 1 that picks up an image of an object 30 to acquire color video information, a designation means 6 that designates a desirably emphasized color component of the color video information acquired by the image pickup means 1, a video extract means 2 that extracts the color component of the video image designated by this designation means 6, and a color conversion means 3 that converts the color component extracted by the video extract means 2 into video information in an optional color. Through the configuration above, the desirably emphasized color component, that is, a video image whose hue and saturation reside within a specific range can be replaced with a video image having an accurate ratio of red, green and blue colors. Thus, in the case that the visibility of a color of a desirably emphasized component in a color video image of the object 30 is low, the color of the desirably emphasized component can be replaced with a color with excellent visibility.
