PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-diagnostic electronic price label capable of detecting and reporting a defect automatically. SOLUTION: The self-diagnostic electronic price label communicates with a central processor to receive price information for display and to report the status of the electronic price label to the central processor. The electronic price label runs a self-inspection program periodically to verify the proper operation of the various kinds of components. If a component fails in self- inspection, the fault is reported to the central processor, which reports the fault for investigation. During normal operation, the electronic price label emits a signal showing the normal operation to the central processor. In the case of a fault, the electronic price label stops the transmission of the signal showing the normal operation. When the signal is not received as it is expected, the central processor reports the fault and receives the signal for the investigation. Thus, it becomes possible to generate the alarm of the fault for disabling communication between the electronic price label and the central processor. |
