PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of performing processing at high speed and reducing a stop or a fault as for the paper sheet handling device such as an automatic handling device. SOLUTION: The device has a housing part for housing paper sheets, a charging and discharging part for charging and discharging the paper sheets, a sending means for feeding the paper sheets charged to the charging and discharging part, a discrimination part for discriminating the paper sheets, a carrying path for carrying the paper sheets sent by the sending means to the housing part, a cut-off means for cutting off the paper sheets to a returning and carrying path from the carrying path based on the result of discrimination by the discrimination part, and a temporarily housing part for temporarily housing the paper sheets cut off by the cut-off means.
