PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery that shows a stable charge and discharge characteristics at a wide temperature range. SOLUTION: The nickel positive electrode is made of a nickel sinter substrate which is filled with a prescribed amount of nickel hydroxide by a chemical impregnation method and in which one or more kinds of compounds of an element which is selected from Ca, Sr, Sc, Y and lanthanide series elements, are added in the nickel hydroxide layer as above filled. The electrolyte of the alkaline electrolytic solution is made individually or as a mixture of cesium hydroxide, rubidium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide, and its alkaline concentration is established as 10 mol/L or more.
