Production of a flexible, high temperature resistant thermal- and acoustic insulating material comprises aerodynamic formation of a felt having a density of 5-100 kg/m<3> and a powdered binding agent mixture of SiO2 and a polymer resin to bind the fibers to the SiO2 powder. The reinforced felt is further heated in an oven to decompose and remove the organic components of the binding agent.
