METHOD FOR ASSIGNING COMMON PACKET CHANNEL

PURPOSE: A method for assigning a common packet channel is provided to supply 16 or more common packet channels by assigning a scrambling code by using a collision detection preamble and a channel assignment indicator channel. CONSTITUTION: A mobile station transmits the maximum data rate or the minimum dispersion rate of a channel to be used to a base station for requesting channel assignment. The base station judges that the requested channel can be assigned and responses the result to the mobile station. The mobile station maps a collision detection preamble for preventing channel collision at a specific scrambling code set and transmits the scrambling code set to the base station. The base station selects random scrambling code in the scrambling code set and maps the selected scrambling code at a channel assignment indicator channel. The mobile station transmits a message by using the scrambling code indicated by the channel assignment indicator channel.
