The device has an interferometer with at least one electrooptical switch or modulator in one of the sub branches of the interferometer. The interference pattern is produced by a phase shift in the electrooptical switch or modulator corresponding to a stochastic digital optical signal. Interference is produced between the optical signal in one sub branch with the electrooptical switch or modulator and a supplied binary optical signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of secure transmission of messages with optical signals.
