The engine has a crankcase with a gas-proof crank chamber for each cylinder. Each crank chamber (12) has a closeable outlet (20) of limited size, for the removal of lubricant and blow-by-gases. Each outlet has a throttle (21) to limit a max. removal volume, formed by a calibrated construction of the outlet profile. The outlet is closed periodically and gas-proof. The contours of the end faces (22,23) of the crankcase side walls (15,16) facing the crankshaft (2), correspond to the envelope curve of the crank web (10,11) of a crank pin.
