PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soot removing device for a manufacturing device of an optical fiber base material by a MCVD process. SOLUTION: This soot removing device is provided with a quartz tube 1, raking blade 6, stem rod 7, frame plate 10, adjustable joint 8, driving rod 9, string 13 - attaching disk 11 and a string for raking 13. The blade 6 is a plate with the size properly smaller than the inner diameter of the tube 1. The stem rod 7 is fixed to the blade 6 so as to extend parallely with the face of the blade. The plate 10 moves back and forth in the length direction of the rod 7. The rod 9 which is attached to the plate 10 freely rotationally is jointed coaxially to the stem rod 7 through the joint 8. The disk 11 with string 13 is rotational relatively round the rod 9 by an outer rotational drive. The string 13 is tightened up between the blade 6 and the disk 11.
