PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow combustion exhaust gas to uniformly and efficiently pass through materials to be treated, when the combustion exhaust gas is fed from one side in the horizontal direction of the carbonization over and is allowed to pass through the materoals from the upper side to the lower side. SOLUTION: A straightener 5 for the combustion exhaust gas is attached to the opened upper face of a container vessel 4 filled with the materials to be treated (logs) 7 that are arranged upright in the vertical direction. The straightener 5 comprises six straightening blades 51, 51, ... and they are each projected upward at an angle from the container vessel so that the heights of their upper edge may become higher stepwise as they go away from the feed inlet 25. The distributor 6 is set to the side face on the feed side of the container vessel 4 and a part of the exhaustion flue gas from the feed inlet is from the opening 61 and fed from the ejection openings 63 into the materials to be treated 7 in the lower area of the vessel 4. The combustion exhaust gas fed from the feed inlet 25 toward the right side is divided and taken into the vessel 4 for every straightening blades and these flows are turned downward, allowed to flow through the spaces between the materials to be treated and the exhaust gas are led out of the exhaustion space 22 and the exhaust outlet 26.
