PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trouble detecting method for a multistage hopper loader, capable of speedily finding the cause of the trouble on the hopper loader. SOLUTION: In the multistage hopper loader, electric motors 4, 7 and 10 for conveying products by rotationally driving spiral lines in pipes 3a, 6a and 9a are provided on the downstream sides of the pipes, and the electric motors are operated on the basis of detected signals of load presence sensors 2, 5 and 8. When the products are not detected by the load presence sensor 5 of a hopper loader 6 on the upper stage after the specified time passes after the products are detected by the load presence sensor 2 of a hopper loader 3 on the lower stage, it is judged that the spiral line of the hopper loader on the lower stage is disconnected or the load presence sensor of the hopper loader on the upper stage fails. When the products are detected by the load presence sensor 5 of the hopper loader 6 on the upper stage after the specified time passes and when the electric motor on the lower stage is stopped, it is judged that the spiral line of the hopper loader on the upper stage is disconnected.
