A non-linear media editor may be integrated into an analog or digital television, a digital set-top box, an Internet appliance, or the like. The editing system may be configured to accept inputs from a variety of inputs including analog or digital cameras or camcorders, analog or digital satellite signals, analog or digital cable signals, analog or digital broadcast signals received via an antenna, and Internet signals received via modem, ISDN, xDSL, cable modem and the like. The editing system utilizes a graphical user interface (GUI) to obtain commands for performing the editing operations and includes a software program that receives the commands from the user.
