摘要 PURPOSE: A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided, which can perform a high speed addressing to improve a contrast ratio by applying a low voltage to a subsidiary pulse. CONSTITUTION: A sub field of four electrode PDP(Plasma Display Panel) is divided into a priming and reset period initializing a whole surface, an address period writing data as scanning the whole surface with a division driving method and a sustain period retaining a light emitting state of cells where data are written. During the reset period, discharge cells are initialized, and priming electric charge particles and wall charges are formed in each discharge cell by making a discharge between a scan/sustain electrode line(Y) and a common sustain electrode line(Z) with a discharge pulse supplied to the common sustain electrode line to help an address discharge. During the address period, a scan pulse(-Vs) is applied to each scan/sustain electrode line of the PDP, and a data pulse(Vd) synchronized to the scan pulse is supplied to each address electrode line(X). An address discharge occurs in a discharge cell where the data pulse and the scan pulse exist at the same time. After the address discharge in the discharge cell, a spare pulse(Va) is supplied to a spare electrode line(A) formed in parallel with the address electrode line. The spare electrode generates a space charge in the discharge cell by making a spare discharge in the discharge cell. During the sustain period, a sustain pulse is supplied to the scan/sustain electrode line and the common sustain electrode line to make the discharge cells selected during the address period radiate.
