Non-destructive method for controlling wooden poles, esp. electrical and telephone network poles, using expert software

The method involves probing the pole (1) in a horizontal diametrical plane above the base (5) of the pole, recording profile of the wood density over its entire diameter and assessing mechanical strength by mathematical analysis. The degree of rot and/or the weakening of the wood are determined at the base level (5). Physical dimensions of the pole are measured, faults or degradation of the wood are visually controlled, and corrective coefficients of the approximate mechanical strength are evaluated to reach a net limit tensile strength. Based on the above obtained input values an expert computer system establishes a diagnostic for immediate or deferred repair or for preserving the pole. An Independent claim for a computer system, pref. PC system, for carrying out the method is also included.
