PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the surge current resistance and surge energy withstand of an arrester which protects various kinds of electronic equipment and electric facilities from thunder or such noise as the switching surge, etc. SOLUTION: This arrester comprises a cylindrical insulator 1, a plurality of voltage nonlinear elements 4 which are housed in the insulator 1 in a laminated state and have melt-sprayed electrodes on both their surfaces, and a pair of electrode plates 5. The arrester also comprises a spring 6 which is connected electrically to the melt-sprayed electrodes through the electrode plates 5 and holds the electrodes in a state where the spring 6 is press-contacted with the electrodes from one side and a cap 3 having a terminal 2 in the opening of the insulator 1. In this arrester, conductors 7 are respectively interposed among the laminated voltage nonlinear elements 4.
