PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform protective action related to a converter based on an input current of the converter. SOLUTION: A voltage command value vzr according to a deviation between an AC input power command (isr) and a converter input current (is) by detection of a current detector 16 is generated in a current controller 26, an input voltage command (ecr) according to a deviation between the voltage command value (vzr) and AC voltage (es) by detection of a voltage detector 12 is generated in a subtracter 28, a PWM pulse is generated from a PWM pulse generator 30 based on the input voltage command (ecr), in a process control rectifying action of a PWM controller 18 in accordance with the PWM pulse, an input current (ise) is calculated in an input current arithmetic device 34 from the voltage command value (vzr) and impedance of a reactor 14, this arithmetic value (ise) is compared with the detection current (is) of a power detector 16 in a comparator 36 when a deviation between both the arithmetic value and the detection current deviates from a range of permissible value, a PWM pulse stop command is output from the comparator 36 with respected to a converter controller 32, and action of the PWM converter 18 is stopped.
