PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which dust can be detected without taking long time by the end of an original reading operation. SOLUTION: When dust detection processing is not performed when of after an initial operation is conducted, the existence/absence of diffused external light and a reading state are decided in steps S205 and S207 in order to judge whether dust detection can be performed. When dust detection is decided as possible to be performed in a step S209 on the basis of the decision results, dust detection is performed in step 211. When a series of original reading operations are finished in a step S213, dust detection is subsequently carried out in a step S215. Spending another time only for dust detection is prevented by performing dust detection in parallel with original transport during the initial operation or after completion of reading operation is conducted. |
