Processes and intermediates for the preparation of 2-benzoylcyclohexane-1,3-diones of Formula (I), to compositions and use of the compounds for controlling harmful plants. Wherein; R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, mercapto, nitro, halogen, cyano, thiocyanate, C1-6alkyl, C1-6haloalkyl, C1-6alkoxy, C1-6alkyl, C2-6alkenyl, C2-6alkynyl, -OR10, -OCOR10, -OSO2R10, -S(O)nR10, -SO2OR10, -SO2NR3R10, -NR10SO2R10 or -NR10COR; Q is a cyclohexane-1,3-dione ring with or without substitution, which is attached in position 2; A is a group of the Formula IIa, IIb, III; R3 is hydrogen, C1-6alkyl or phenyl, where the alkyl and phenyl radicals may carry one to three of the following groups: hydroxyl, mercapto, amino, cyano, R10, -OR10, -SR10, -NR8R10, -OCOR10, -SCOR10, -NR8COR10, -CO2R10, -COSR10, -CONR8R10, C1-4alkyliminooxy, C1-4alkoxyamino, C1-4alkylcarbonyl, C1-4alkoxy-C2-6alkoxycarbonyl, C1-4alkylsulfonyl, heterocyclyl, heterocyclyloxy, phenyl, benzyl, hetaryl, phenoxy, benzyloxy and hetaryloxy; R4-R7 may be identical or different and, independently of each other, are: hydrogen, hydroxyl, mercapto, amino, halogen, C1-6alkyl, C3-6cycloalkyl, phenyl, -OR10, -S(O)nR10, -OS(O)nR10, -PO(OR10)2, -NR3R10, -Si(R10)3 or -OCOR10, where the alkyl and cycloalkyl radicals mentioned and R3 and R10 of the radicals -OR10, -S(O)nR10, -OS(O)nR10, -PO(OR10)2, -NR3R10, -Si(R10)3, -OCOR10 may carry one to three of the following groups: hydroxyl, mercapto, amino, cyano, R10, -OR10, -SR10, -NR8R10, -OCOR10, -SCOR10, -NR8COR10, -CO2 R10, -COSR10, -CONR8R10, C1-4alkyliminooxy, C1-4alkoxyamino, C1-4alkylcarbonyl, C1-4alkoxy-C2-6alkoxycarbonyl, C1-4alkylsulfonyl, heterocyclyl, heterocyclyloxy, phenyl, benzyl, hetaryl, phenoxy, benzyloxy and hetaryloxy.
