The method involves computing a rank table from amplitude histigram of the functions values within a window and pertinent sum functions, respectvely. Another rank table is computed from the rank predecessor values. For every added function value, input changes by adding either 1 or -1 to the predecessor rank value depending on whether the value falling out of the window is between 0.5 and -0.5. The values of the difference histogram are then computed for use with another window, after which corresponding values are either added or subtracted to the predecessor window. An independent claim is also included for a parallel processing device.
