A moisture sensor (100) detects relative atmospheric moisture. It has a moisture-sensitive element (2) or small hygro-band that moves a rounded head (10) over a gearing mechanism and undergoes a size change when influenced by atmospheric moisture. This change can bend an optical fibre section (1). This bending changes light flux through the fibre. The change is measured as a reference quantity measured by how much the optical fibre's light is subdued.
