LATCH ASSEMBLY ARRANGEMENT FOR TAG AXLE

An auxiliary axle system (200) for a work vehicle (100) is disclosed including a pair of spaced arms (212) pivotally mounted to the vehicle (100), at least one tag axle (22) and wheel (24) and a cross member (216) and a latch pin (226) carried on one arm (212). An operating system for moving the auxiliary axle assembly (200) between a raised stowed position and a ground engaging support position is provided with a modular latch mechanism (300) for retaining the auxiliary axle assembly (200) in the elevated position by containing the latch pin (226). The modular latch mechanism (300) is carried on a base plate (302) mounted as a unit through adjustable bolt slots (304) behind an existing vehicle metal structure (412) so that only a hook device (314) extends beyond the plate (302).
