The apparatus includes a substrate mounting section (5). A linear transport path (4) passes form the front side of the apparatus through the mounting section to an opposite side. To the side of the transport path, locations are provided for feed devices (7) in which a mounting head picks up components and moves them to their mounting positions. Several of the mounting apparatuses are arranged in sequence to form an assembly line. The apparatus includes a connector (14) at its front side so that an adjacent apparatus can be connected to form a stable interconnection.
