A mechanism for adjusting the length of a bracelet to fit the wrist of the wearer consists of a buckle (40) which pivots about an axis (20) passing through one end of a clasp plate, and a tongue (30) which pivots about the same axis. The tongue or plate end has one or more stops (16) which limit the rotation of the tongue between a raised position at right angles to the plate and a lowered position in the same plane as the plate. In addition, the upper cross-member (46) of the buckle forms a stop for the upper free end of the plate. The buckle's pivot pin (20) is held in place by its ends above the free end of the plate, and the front face of the tongue has a stop (34) which lies at right angles to the pivot pin.
