PURPOSE: A cation-added zinc cadmium sulfide photocatalyst for generating hydrogen, a preparation method thereof and a hydrogen preparing method using it are provided to utilize wide range of light source and improve catalyst life and activity by utilizing advantages of CdS and ZnS catalysts. CONSTITUTION: The CdZnMS photocatalyst for generating hydrogen is expressed by Formula VII{m(a)CdxZnyMzS}. In Formula VII, m represents a metal doped as electron acceptor, which is selected from Ni, Pt, Ru or their oxides; a is weight percentage of m, which is in the range of 0.10-5.00; M is a metal selected from Mo, V, Al, Cs, Mn, Fe, Pd, Pt, P, Cu, Ag, Ir, Sb, Ga and Re; and z is atomic percentage of M/(Cd+Zn+M), which is in the range of 0.05-20.00.
