PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially useful method for producing benzyl acetate without causing the lowering of catalytic activity by water included in the raw material. SOLUTION: Benzyl acetate is produced by contacting toluene, acetic acid, water and oxygen with a catalyst having acetoxylation performance. In the above process, an oxygen-containing compound having benzene ring is added to the raw material at a concentration of >=1 wt.% based on the toluene and acetic acid used as the raw materials. |
