PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ecological flame retardance-imparting composite particle at a low cost which can impart high flame retardance in a reduced amount to be added and does not generate harmful substances upon production and combustion. SOLUTION: The flame retardance-imparting composite particle 10 is constituted of a compound layer 2 comprising a silicon component and/or a metallic component and oxygen which is covering a supporting material particle (a polymeric material particle) 1. The compound layer 2 produces a vitreous ceramic by heating, and such a flame retardance-imparting composite particle 10 is compounded with (added to) a flame retardance-imparting target material composed of, for example, a polymeric material or the like and as the result, a high flame retardance can be imparted to the flame retardance-imparting target substance.
