PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bumper beam structure which has an optimum strength characteristic, can effectively cope with a light collision and a serious collision, and is inexpensive, lightweight, and excellent in safety. SOLUTION: In this bumper beam 3 suspended and fitted to the end sections of frames 1A, 1B extending in the longitudinal direction of a vehicle body, the vicinities of the fitting sections of the bumper beam 3 to the end sections of the frames 1A, 1B are made lower in strength than other portions to be deformed when the compressive force of the prescribed value or above is applied (slant sections 5 are formed on a reinforcing girder 4 in the example shown in the figure). At the light collision when the compressive force of the prescribed value or above is not applied, the bumper beam 3 and the reinforcing girder 4 show resistance of some degree to secure resistance, and the bumper beam is not broken. At a high-speed collision, the vicinities of the fitting sections made easy to be deformed by the slant sections 5 are buckled and collapsed at an early stage, the generated maximum shock load is suppressed low, the collision energy is efficiently absorbed, then the residual energy is imputed to the frames 1A, 1B, thereby the shock to the frame side can be reduced.
