PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter device capable of automating the cleaning of a filter body and making maintenance free with respect the filter device, in which the filter body having a fine gap is divided to form a filter before space and a filter after space. SOLUTION: A filter unit having the filter body having a fine gap group, where a filter aid composed of fine particles is stored, and forming the filter before space and the filter after space by being divided, an inlet opening communicating with the filter before space of the filter body, a discharge opening separated from the inlet opening communicating with the filter before space or branched from the inlet opening and an outlet opening communicating with the filter after space, a filter aid supply system for depositing the filter aid on the fine gap group of the filter unit by passing liquid flow containing the filter air from the inlet opening to the outlet opening of the filter unit; a filter system for filtering with the filter unit by passing liquid flow to be filtered from the inlet opening to the outlet opening through the filter unit; and a backward washing system for washing out the filter aid and foreign matter deposited on the fine gap group of the filter body of the filter unit by passing liquid flow from the inlet opening to the outlet opening through the filter unit are included and the filter device is operated by selecting the filter aid supply system, the filtrate supply system and the backward washing system.
