PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a durable ternary catalyst which is inexpensive because a much smaller amount of carried noble metals is used as compared with a conventional catalyst and attains superior exhaust conversion efficiency in the vicinity of theoretical air-fuel ratio. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the method for producing the ternary catalyst, the catalyst and the use of the catalyst for treating exhaust gas generated by an internal combustion engine using gasoline as fuel. The catalyst compound contains a mixture of particles of three different materials, concretely, a mixture of calcined particles of ceria/zirconia impregnated with platinum together with palladium, calcined particles of another ceria/zirconia impregnated with only rhodium as a noble metal and alumina particles not impregnated with a noble metal. |
