BIDIRECTIONAL WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEX OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economized and miniaturized bidirectional wavelength multiplex optical communication system by making a multiplexer-demultiplexer usable in common in transmission and reception. SOLUTION: The signal light of plural different wavelengths λ1, λ3 and λ5-λ15 to be transmitted outputted from transmitters 1a-1h is multiplexed in a waveguide grating 3 and transmitted to a bidirectional transmission line 7 at a first transmission/reception terminal and demultiplexed in the waveguide grating 9 and received by receivers 11a-11h at a second transmission/reception terminal. Also, the signal light of the plural different wavelengths λ2, λ4 and λ6-λ16 to be transmitted outputted from the transmitters 15a-15h is multiplexed in the waveguide grating 9 and transmitted to the bidirectional transmission line 7 at the second transmission/reception terminal and demultiplexed in the waveguide grating 3 and received by the receivers 5a-5h at the first transmission/reception terminal.
